Small things can make a huge difference sometimes. There are some small steps you can take and enjoy a healthier you. Read on to know them.
1. Breakfast should not be optional
Yes, breakfast is the most important meal of the day and should be mandatory in your schedule. Start your day with a healthy breakfast. This will keep you energetic throughout the day. Studies show that those who have full breakfast tend to eat less in the rest of the day as compared to those who don’t have breakfast at all. “Eat your breakfast like a king,” and have a healthy day ahead.
While eating a full breakfast, make sure you pack a home cooked meal for lunch too. That would stop you from consuming unhealthy, unhygienic, fatty food from outside.
2. Keep washing your hands
Remember your nursery class instructions to wash your hands. This may sound childish, but is important in order to keep the growth of germs under control. You touch a number of things, which are common to all in the office, so cleaning your hands becomes important. After washing them, do not forget to dry them properly as bacteria grow better in damp environment.
If you want, you can go for an alcohol-based sanitizer. Keep one in your easy reach and use it whenever needed. Mind that you do not over use it as it may lead to adverse effects on your skin.
3. Prefer to stand and walk rather than sitting
As they say, “Sitting is new smoking.” Those prolonged periods of inactivity increase the risk of obesity; they also cause a staggering list of other conditions. This includes heart disease, diabetes, colon cancer, muscular and back issues, deep vein thrombosis, brittle bones, depression and even dementia.
Try standing more while working, this is good for your back and burns calories. Take out some time and go for short walks around your office. Resting your body continuously for long times can cause body aches, also can make you grow fatter. So get up and move!
4. You deserve a break
Even machines need breaks and you have no super power to be able to work continuously. Many of the office space in Delhi or any other metro city is full of people having too much stress because of work. You must take frequent breaks from work. This is the best way to increase your work productivity. (Also Read: Five ways taking breaks can improve your productivity) Continuous working will only drain out your energy. Go for a walk, have some healthy snack, it may be your favourite fruit or some beverage.
Coming to beverages, select them wisely. Restrict yourself from having sodas and aerated drinks. They have ill effects on your health. If you are a coffee lover, keep a check on the intake as excess of caffeine can be equally worse too. A little tea/coffee or healthier options like green tea or lemon tea are good for you.
5. Take out some time for yourself
Teamwork is important. You should spend time with your fellow colleagues to make good working relations. However, if you are able to find some time alone for yourself during the working hours, it enhances your performance. Look for a vacant conference room and spend some time there, alone, only with your work. The quality time can fetch you some fresh and new ideas. It will reduce your stress level, thus improve your mental health.
If possible, go out for some time, with your laptop or the files you need to work with. It will be a good recreation and you will not complain of boredom. Work will become more fun.
Besides these, a happy work environment can be a great help to maintain health and improve performance at work. You cannot afford to have a negative environment at the workplace where you spend a major part of the day. Have a friendly atmosphere around you in the office and work the best out of you.
